Two rooms for interviewing minor and adult victims were officially inaugurated yesterday, February 2, current, in the premises of the Center for Combating Human Trafficking of the INI of the IGP.

The official opening of the event took place in the presence of the head of the IGP, Alexandru Pînzari, the head of the IOM Mission in Moldova, Antonio Polosa, the Director of the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Section of the US Embassy, Donald L. Caroll and the Director of the Assistance and Protection Center for Victims and Potential Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings, Diana Bojenco, as well as representatives from the IOM, the Embassy USA, OSCE and the Permanent Secretariat of the NC CTFU.

The hearing rooms were arranged and equipped according to all international requirements in the field with the support of international partners (US Embassy, IOM Mission in Moldova, OSCE) and represent a link of the friendly legal system, which tends to avoid re-victimization and ensure the realization of victims’ rights.

The specialized room for hearing minors was equipped with audio-video surveillance, thus, the child (victim) will be protected from participating in the usual procedural actions, being less subject to the traumatic influences of speaking in front of several adults at the time of elucidation of the situation he went through or that he knows.

Victims, including minors, will have psychological contact with only one specialist, in an environment that inspires safety and trust, so their testimonies will be more accurate and truthful.

In order to avoid a negative and traumatic experience for the minor, the hearing under special conditions will give him the certainty that he will no longer meet directly with the abuser, and the recordings will be used in the legal proceedings whenever necessary, without this minor being heard about what he experienced.

In this context, the head of the IGP thanked the partners for the support given in order to set up the hearing rooms for the victims of human trafficking for not admitting re-victimization and creating a friendly space for them.

“The inauguration of these rooms offers, on the one hand, an important step for the more accurate instrumentation of criminal files, starting from the exact understanding of the needs and manifestations of victims of human trafficking who have gone through traumatic life experiences, and on the other hand, it contributes to the development of institutional and operational capacity by promoting the legal framework in this field”, said the head of the IGP, Alexandru Pînzari.

As a sign of collaboration and high appreciation for the substantial contributions made to the National Police, the head of the IGP, Alexandru Pînzari, awarded the representatives of the Mission of the international organization for migration in Moldova the IGP medal “For Cooperation”.
